elegantly lit father daughter wedding danceA Houston oil executive came to Pro/Sound asking to help throw his daughter the most lavish wedding possible. He wanted a concert sound production for a national recording artist, full intelligent lighting system for a custom white dance floor/stage, the ability to change lighting colors throughout two 10,000 square foot tents, a custom driveway illumination to guide over 600 guests to the party, two whisper quiet generators, and a custom truss structure to hide over 10 miles worth of cables used to power and control all production systems. And also, make this fit in his back yard….and stay off the grass!

The production professionals at Pro/Sound began with a plan to accommodate all aspects of the production process. A crew of over 20 engineers implemented the first phase a week before the special day: A massive truss structure was built on the ground, lifted by 6 hand crank genie towers, and attached to the load rated tent structure to hide all lighting fixtures and cabling. The lighting engineers followed with nearly 250 lighting fixtures to hang and focus. Each fixture had to be specifically cabled to produce the desired coloring effect throughout the evening.

Similar to old style Christmas lights, one mismatched cable could malfunction the entire system. Needless to say, great care was taken in the double and triple cable safety check. The sound engineers arrived for the next phase. The client hired a national recording artist with a ten piece band and a DJ to finish the party during the early morning hours. The crew installed a custom Turbosound professional concert system over the stage to provide enough punch for the tented areas, but to also prevent the production sound from entering the neighborhood sitting a dozen feet from the tent structure. The crew then constructed a discreet front of house location for all hardware control. This night club style lit wedding dance floorincluded a 56 channel Midas professional sound console, an Avolite Pearl intelligent lighting console, and a Leprecon conventional lighting console. The finishing touches, including a grand driveway entrance illumination and custom house illumination for their multi-million dollar residence, were completed the evening before the big day. All that waited was a party.

The bride and groom started with nuptials at nearby St. Paul’s cathedral and made the short drive to the residence for the real fun. Guests entered to a cool blue wash across the main tent, only to have it change to the bride’s favorite color pink as the couple arrived. For the first dance, all décor lighting was dimmed and the 12 intelligent lights focused on the bride and groom as they waltzed on the custom white dance floor. During dinner service, an array of soft colors were gently dimmed throughout the residence. After the main course, the band stormed the stage and all lighting was transformed into a New York City Nightclub. A special wedding cake lighting wash cued the guests toward dessert.

Afterwards, the wedding party strolled down the illuminated driveway to fireworks and a new life. The DJ continued the party inside the tent as the production professionals at Pro/Sound pondered their next major wedding production at a ranch in Oklahoma. It also had two tents and a national recording artist, but this time, they could walk on the grass.
